You don’t need to choose between high quality food and high profit margins

For too long food distributors (and retailers) have had to choose between food quality and profit margins.

Because our homestyle process use ingredients from the previous growing season we can keep your jams, salsas, and BBQ sauces looking and tasting great!

We keep your costs low (and profit margins high) by producing small batches and adjusting production based on your orders coming in. We don’t overproduce or saddle our wholesalers with wasteful overhead costs.

Tasty and vibrant foods without artificial colors and preservatives

Many jams, salsas, and BBQ sauces have great taste but include ultra-processed ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, and more. To provide great taste and bright colors, we only use food grown in the previous growing season.

When you buy food, you expect it to look and taste the same every time.

We agree! That’s why we only use fruits and veggies from the most recent growing season. In order to reduce costs, some food manufacturers will buy food from 2 years ago. While this reduces costs it also reduces the freshness of the food.

FAQs

Why do competitor jams look different from shipment to shipment?

Another reason jams can look different from one shipment to the other is if old ingredients are used. Some producers try to reduce cost by buying frozen fruit that is 2 years old.

We make it a practice to only buy fruit that is from the previous growing season. This helps with a consistent vibrant color and constant great taste that you expect with TDK products.

Is it safe to use ingredients that are more than a year old?
Does The Dutch Kettle use ultra-processed ingredients?

But there is nuance to the question. There’s debate about how foods fall into what is minimally processed, processed, and ultra-processed.

Here’s a list of ingredients that are ultra-processed. These are ingredients you will find in many jams, salsas, and BBQ sauces but not in any TDK foods:

  • High fructose corn syrup
  • Artificial flavors
  • Artificial colors
  • Preservatives

We do use brown and refined sugars, and while some consider them to be “ultra-processed”, they are generally considered “processed”.

The bottom line is that we believe in using as fresh and healthy, and “real” foods/ingredients as possible. We are always moving that way. If you have any questions about ingredients, call or send us message.
